Sister M. Gertrude Coen CSC

Mother M. Gertrude CSC, 51, secretary of the general council of which she was a member at Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 8:50 a.m. today in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, after an illness with a heart ailment. She was born in Davenport, Iowa, Nov. 27, 1895, as Gertrude M. Coen. Survivors include two sisters, Sister M. Lorettyn CSC, and Sister M. Ellen Carols CSC, both at St. Mary’s.

A requiem high mass will be in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary’s at 9 a.m. Saturday by Rev. John Clarke of Des Moines, a nephew of the nun. Burial will be in the community cemetery at St. Mary’s.
