Martin Reese Cole

MISHAWAKA - Martin Reese Cole, 81, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2007, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka Campus. On September 14, 1926, in Brazil, IN, he was born as the son of Roy and Edna (Diskin) Cole. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, and by three brothers, Norman, Louis and Jackie Jo Cole.

 

On January 29, 1949, in Terre Haute, IN, he married the former Dolores Kirchner, who preceded him in death on April 3, 1970. On July 10, 1971, in Terre Haute, IN, he married the former Joyce Powell. Surviving Martin are his wife of 36 years, Joyce; his six children, Kathy Field of Tucson, AZ, Deborah (Jack) Craig of Marshall, IL, Larry (Chris) Cole of Granger, Gary (Sue) Cole of Wakarusa, Rebecca (Chris) Dolson of Madison, WI, Thomas (Mary) Cole of Niles, MI; three stepchildren, David (Rhonda) Powell of Burleson TX, Bart (Kay) Powell of Sarasota, FL, and Mike (Phyllis) Powell of Osceola; three brothers, Don Cole of Bamburg, SC, Leon (Pat) Cole of Louisville, KY, and Cyril Cole of Mishawaka; two sisters, Ruth Edwards of Indianapolis and Mary (Ed) Fenton of Virginia; 43 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

 

Martin was retired from A&P Supermarkets and Dorbins Super Market, where he was a meat cutter. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Martin was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Eagles Aerie 208, V.F.W. Post 360 Mishawaka, American Legion Post 161 in Mishawaka, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mishawaka.

 

Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, November 13th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with military rites preformed by V.F.W. Post 360 and the American Legion Post 161 Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Martin's memory to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
