Joan C. Connon, 62, of Mishawaka died at 9:23 p.m. Friday August 18 in Hospice House.

She was born in Newport News Virginia to Thelbert W. and Virginia (Lane) Columbia.

Joan was a childcare provider during her working years. She had formerly belonged to Forest Avenue Baptist Church and was attending Mishawaka Grace Brethren Church.

She married Larry E. Connon on January 26, 1963, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Marie White and Barbara Ann Connon; and a brother, Wayne Allen Columbia.

Surviving are her children, a daughter, Lara E. (Robert) Niemier of South Bend; two sons, Douglas (Shelley) Connon of Mishawaka and Larry (Vicki) Connon of Mishawaka; and a granddaughter, Katlyn. Among other survivors are two sisters, Wanda Sue Firth of Hampton, Va., and Darlene Begor of Mishawaka; and three brothers, Thelbert W. Columbia of Mishawaka, Maynard E. Columbia of Hampton, Va., and Donald Ray Columbia of Newport News, Va.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday August 22, in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Davy Troxel officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
