Maurice Coppens

January 5, 1903September 27, 1969

 

Maurice C opens, 66, of 718 E. 7th St., died in St Joseph’s Hospital about 6:30am today.  He had been ill for the last year.

 

Mr. Coppens was born January 5, 1903, in Ghent, Belgium, and had lived here since 1920, coming from Europe.  On March 19, 1923, in St Bavo’s Church, he married the former Anna VanOoteghem.  He worked for many years for the Bendix Corp. and had retired.

 

Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Richard H. Coppens and John C. Coppens, both of Mishawaka, and David R. Coppens, stationed with the US Army in Thailand; five daughters, Mrs. Ross L. Portolese, Mrs. Emery Gostola Jr., Mrs. Garrett L. Allison and Mrs. Larry Meersman, all of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Ronald K. Stealy, South Bend; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Herman Coppens, Mishawaka, and Julius Coppens, Dover OH, and a sister, Miss Martha Coppens, Dover.  Mr. Coppens was a long time member of the BK Club.  The body was taken to the DeVos Funeral Home where arrangements are being made.

Funeral Notes

Funeral services for Maurice Coppens, 66, of 718 E. 7th St., who died in St Joseph’s Hospital Saturday morning, will be held at 10am Tuesday, in St Bavo’s Church with Rev. Stephen Cvaniga, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Catholic Cemetery.

 

The Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm Monday in the DeVos Funeral Chapel, where friends may call after 7pm today.  The Fireman’s Auxiliary will meet at 7pm today in the funeral chapel.
