Nancy Ann Coppens

Nancy Ann Coppens, 59, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly at 8:59 p.m. in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, on Wednesday, May 28. Nancy was born on April 30, 1938, in Constantine, Michigan, to Guy E. and Angeline C. () both of whom preceded her in death.

 

On August 20, 1960, Nancy married Richard H. Coppens in White Pigeon, Michigan. They moved to the Mishawaka area in 1968 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1979. She is survived by three daughters, Cara Coppens-Coleen Coppens, and Corinne Coppens all of Mishawaka and two brothers, Douglas E. Nelson of Shipshewana, Ind., and James L. Nelson of Auburn, Ind.

 

Nancy had been working in the St. Joseph County Clerk's Office in Mishawaka for the past eight years. Prior to that, she had taught home economics at Washington Twp. High School in LaPorte County for eight years until 1968. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the United Religious Community, Democratic Women's Club, active in the Shepherding Program at the Women's Care Center, and was a 4 H Fair Judge covering Northern Indiana. Nancy was a 1960 graduate of Ball State University where she received her bachelor's degree in home economics. She completed her studies at I.U.S.B., receiving her Masters Degree.

 

Visitation will be in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd St., Mishawaka on Saturday, May 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, June 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A wake service will be held Sunday in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Services will be on Monday, June 2 in St. Bavo's Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. with Fr. James officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:15 a.m. Monday in the Shore Cemetery in Shipshewana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Care Center.
