Cynthia K. "Cindy" Couch, of 526 South Grant Street, South Bend, Indiana, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend after an extended illness. She was 48 years old. Born on July 17, 1953, in South Bend, to Alfred and Geraldine (Bronski) Stachowiak, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Amy) Flager of Bristol, Indiana, and son, Jamey Couch of South Bend. Surviving as well is a brother, Thomas (Brenda) Stachowiak of South Bend; and three sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Kathy) Moore Jr. of Florida, Mrs. David (Judy) Newland of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Sloma of South Bend. Two grandchildren survive also. Ms. Couch was preceded in death by one brother, James Stachowiak, and a sister, Diane Hatton.

A memorial Mass will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in South Bend on Friday, March 15, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Richard Laurick, C.S.C., will officiate. Cremation has already taken place.

Ms. Couch worked most of her life in the South Bend area as a cook and waitress in several area restaurants. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Club of the American Legion Post 357. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made out to the United Cancer Services of St. Joseph County.
