IRENE H. COUSSENS

December 3, 1912 – December 22, 2002

 

Irene H. Coussens, 90, a lifetime resident of Grape Road, died at 6:10am Sunday, December 22nd, in Country Care West where she had been a resident for the last thirteen months.

 

Irene was born in Mishawaka IN, on December 3, 1912, and had been a lifetime resident.  As Irene Strantz, she married Camiel A. Coussens on April 27, 1932, in Granger IN.  He died on November 22, 1992.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hattie (Boinski) Strantz; and by two brothers, Henry and Edwin Strantz.

 

Mrs. Coussens was a homemaker and a partner in Camiel Coussens Wholesale Meats and Coussens Beef Livestock Farm.  She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the St Pius Women’s Society.

 

Irene is survived by her sons, Charles (Dorothy) Coussens, DVM, of Russellville AR, Frank J. Coussens, DVM, of Dillon CO, Paul C. (Virginia) Coussens of South Bend, Henry J. (Mary Lou) Coussens of Kentland IN and John J. Coussens of Mishawaka.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8pm Friday, December 27, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where a vigil service will be held at 7pm Friday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Pius X Catholic Church at 11am on Saturday, with Fr. William Schooler officiating.  Burial will follow at St Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, to the American Heart Association and to St Pius X Catholic Church.
