SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE – December 12, 2002

Dempsey A. Cox

Nov. 29, 1925 - Dec. 9, 2002

Dempsey Arnold Cox Jr., 77, of East Altgeld Street, South Bend, Ind., died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 9, in his residence.

Mr. Cox was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Olive Hill, Ky., to the late Dempsey A. and Nell (Phillips) Cox, and had lived in South Bend since 1964, coming from Rochester, N.Y.

On April 5, 1952, in Detroit, Mich., he married Maggie A. King, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Mason W. Cox of Austin, Texas, and David S. (Annette) Cox of Lake Orion, Mich.; and by two granddaughters, Courtney and Nicole Cox.

Friend, husband, son, father, grandfather, and attorney. Though he had many roles in life, he thrived in all, and each was a priority to him. In his passing, he will still fill these many roles, but mostly he will be missed.

Patient, loyal and accepting, the words that defined him in life are many. In his passing he will still be all this, but mostly he will be missed.

For those that he touched in life, in his passing his touch will still be felt, but mostly he will be missed.

He demanded everything of himself and expected nothing from life in return. He was and is dearly loved, but mostly and heartily he will be missed.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. today, Dec. 12, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, with Very Rev. Frederick Mann and Deacon Joseph Illes of the Cathedral of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. The family will receive friends in the funeral home immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the Cathedral of St. James Episcopal Church, Dean's Discretionary Fund, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601.
