SOUTH BEND - Ray Crawford, 81, passed away Christmas morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on February 25, 1927, in South Bend to Ben and Ethel (Batson) Crawford. He had 10 brothers & sisters, all preceded him in death except his youngest brother Clem (Marge) Crawford of South Bend. He served in the US Navy before marring Mary L. Davis in November 1947. They had nine children, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Ray worked for 26 years at Drewrys Brewery before they closed down. He also worked at Lumber Specialty for 15 years before retiring. He is a lifetime member of the veterans of foreign wars. Ray enjoyed the simple things in life. He always loved spending time with his family, watching sports and shopping for items for his newer home. He also enjoyed spending time at his lake home in the past. He is preceded in death by his son: Gary Crawford of South Bend. Survivors include his wife Mary L. (Davis) Crawford, sons: Richard (Roberta) Crawford & Dan (Susan) Crawford of Granger, Robert (Sue) Crawford of Knoxville, TN, Terry and Larry Crawford of South Bend: daughters: Sue (Del) Vohs of South Bend, Sandy (Tim) Whitfield of Niles. Pam (Rich) Heighway of Granger; sister-in-law: Lois (Benny) Crawford of South Bend along with his 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

 

Services will be held at 11 am Tuesday December 30 in the HICKEY Funeral Homes 17131 Cleveland Road where friends may call Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 .
