Services for Sister Mary Immaculate CSC, 82, of Saint Mary’s Convent, who died about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the convent, will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Loretto with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today at the convent, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.

 

Sister Immaculate was born April 6, 1908 in Jackson, Mich. as Helen Creek. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on June 0, 1927; was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1928; and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1930. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s College, in 1937, with a bachelors degree in English and received her doctorate in English from Yale University in 1971. She was assigned in California from 1930 to 1935; at St. Mary’s College from 1935 to 1971 she was a professor in the English department; from 1971 to 1985 she was assigned to research and writing and edited the books, “Cross Against the Sky”, “Panorama”, the Tree and the Master” and “City of Rachel”.
