Clement Gordon Cressy

SOUTH BEND – Clement G. Cressy, 85, of 1115 N. St. Peter Street, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital after an extended illness. He was a retired carpenter. Born Aug. 23, 1885 in Yorkshire, England, he came to South Bend 83 years ago.

 

On March 7, 1916, in Chicago, he married Katherine Leonard who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Robert of South Bend, Ralph and Jack, both of Chicago, and Leonard of Alameda, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Swain of South Bend, and Mrs. Charles Wood of Laguna, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph J. of South Bend and Thornton T. of Hillsdale, Mich.

 

Friends may call after 4 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church by Rev. Edward Ruetz, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mr Cressy was a member of Carpenters Local 413, in which he held the longest continuous membership, belonging to the union since 1908. He was aslo a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Holy Name Society. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
