Charles H. Crump

April 19, 1928 - March 23, 2001

Mr. Charles Henry Crump, 72, dear loved one, who resided on West Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., passed from this life at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, in St. Joseph Care Center West, as a result of an extended illness.

He was born to the union of the late Charles H. and Lovie L. (Morman) Crump in Hernando, Miss., on April 19, 1928.

Moving from Memphis, Tenn., he relocated to South Bend 40 years ago where he married Willa Mae Coplin on April 19, 1963. He retired from the Hurwich Iron Company, and was a faithful member of Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Family members who survive to mourn his loss include four daughters, Charlene Crump of Buffalo, N.Y., Beverly Coplin of Las Vegas, Nev., Brenda (John) Esters-Spence and Kimberly (Kenny) Crump-Adams, both of Dallas, Texas; one son, Charles H. (Nancy) Crump III of Elkhart, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Barney) Barnes of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, James Crump of Philadelphia, Pa.; and his mother-in-law, Emma Ward of Dallas, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death along with his parents were his wife, Willa Mae Crump, passing on Jan. 17, 1998; a son, Anthony Crump; a granddaughter, Serena Yvonne Esters; and a sister, Joel Barton.

Funeral services for Mr. Crump will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 30, in Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 202 South Lake Street, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
