Mary Catherine Cukrowicz

 

 

Oct. 6, 1922 - April 15, 2007

 

SOUTH BEND - Mary Catherine Cukrowicz, 84, residing in South Bend, passed away following an illness at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mrs. Cukrowicz was born October 6, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, as the daughter of Vincent and Charlotte (Braker) Hoerstman, and had lived in the South Bend-Mishawaka area most of her life. On June 15, 1946, in St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as Mary Hoerstman, she was united in marriage to Stanley D. Cukrowicz. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Stanley of nearly 61 years. Also surviving are a daughter, Cathy Stachowiak of Mishawaka; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Stephanie Cukrowicz of South Bend; and a sister, Agnes McLochlin of California. Six grandchildren survive Mary as well, Jennifer LaMar, Amy Freemon, Mark Stachowiak, Montana Haines, Dakota Haines and Zachary Cukrowicz, along with five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cukrowicz was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Stachowiak, on July 2, 2000. Mrs. Cukrowicz was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she has touched. She was a longtime member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in St. Jude Catholic Church. Rev. John Delaney, pastor, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 17, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mary Cukrowicz may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 922 East Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
