W. Aileen Cunningham

June 20, 1924 - April 19, 2000

W. "Aileen" Cunningham, 75, of West 7th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in an automobile accident at Ireland and Locust roads, South Bend, Ind.

Mrs. Cunningham was born on June 20, 1924, in Grand Blanc, Mich., as the daughter of the late Harold and Viola (Byam) Wood. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie Cunningham; a granddaughter, Sara Jean Kohl; and by two brothers, Richard Wood and Robert Wood. Mrs. Cunningham was a lifetime area resident.

 

On Feb. 8, 1945, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as the former W. "Aileen" Wood, she married Thurl Cunningham, who also preceded her in death on May 31, 1985. She is survived by three daughters, Winifred Robinson of Mishawaka, Linda Kohl of Rockford, Mich., and Kathleen (Earl) Motts of South Bend; and by a son, James (Stephanie) Cunningham of Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren, Susan (David) Neidhamer, Bryan Rudnicki, Elizabeth Kohl, David Kohl, Megan Cunningham and Nicholas Cunningham; a sister, JoAnn Carothers of Niles, Mich.; and by a brother, Donald Wood of Mishawaka.

 

Mrs. Cunningham was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, a member of the Tuesday Bowling League "Golden Gang" at the Chippewa Bowling Lanes, South Bend, and a member of the Campfire Girls. She was a past president of the B-K Club Ladies Auxiliary, Mishawaka. Mrs. Cunningham also enjoyed travelling and bowling.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 21, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, in the funeral home, with Rev. James Shafer, pastor of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Cunningham may be made to Cerebral Palsy or to the American Cancer Society, 535 W.
