Betty R. Currens, 79, of Roxbury
Plaza, South Bend, Ind., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Hospice
House. She was born July 4, 1922, to William and Hattie (Krouse)
Listenberger in Argos, Ind. Both of her parents preceded
her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Darwin
Listenberger; and by two sisters, Lena Billman and
Geraldine Listenberger. On March 22, 1944, she married
Robert K. Currens in Houston, Texas. He survives. She is also
survived by a son, John P. Currens of Pescadero, Calif.; a
daughter, Jennifer (Charles) Lahey of South Bend; and two
grandchildren, Brendan K. Lahey of Chicago, Ill., and Eleanor H.
Lahey of New Orleans, La.; a brother, Floyd Listenberger of
Houston; several nieces and nephews; and by a special caregiver
and friend, a niece, Dianne West. Betty graduated from the
School of Nursing at University Hospital in Chicago, and retired
from Memorial Hospital in 1981. Betty enjoyed people and was an
avid card player.
Cremation will take place. The family will
greet friends in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William
Street, South Bend, from 3 to 5 p.m. today, March 1. A family
service will be held on a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery,
Argos, Ind. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers,
memorial donations be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
