Sister M. Agnesita (Mary Catherine Custard), 81, died on Wednesday, March 15, in Basil Moreau Convent, 18325 Bailey Avenue, South Bend, Ind. Sister M. Agnesita (Mary Catherine Custard) was born on April 11, 1918, to the late Frances Leo and Mary Helen Cleary Custard in Washington, D.C.

 

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind., on Feb. 14, 1939, from Washington, D.C., and made her final profession in the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1944. Sister M. Agnesita was a clerk/typist before entering Holy Cross. She then trained to teach and was an elementary school teacher from 1941 until 1984. Sister taught in Virginia, Austin and McAllen, Texas, New York City, and was in charge of senior boys in the St. Joseph's Home, Brookland, Washington, D.C. She returned to teaching in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Her last mission was at the Blessed Sacrament School, Washington, D.C., 1981-1984.

 

When Sister returned to Saint Mary's she was in charge of the boutique shop that was located in the Center Building. Sister resided at Saint Mary's and moved to Basil Moreau Convent, Bailey Street, where she participated in the Apostolate of Prayer until her death.

Sister M. Agnesita is survived by a nephew, Michael Mudd of Bowie, Md.

 

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. and wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 17, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
