Leo J. Czarnecki

SOUTH BEND - Leo J. Czarnecki, 74, of Fredrickson Street died at 7:50 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Czarnecki was employed for the former Stude-baker Corporation for 22 years. He retired in 1986 from Michiana Machine and retired in 1995 from Klem Supply Inc. after 10 years of service. He was born on Aug. 19, 1921, in South Bend and was a life long area resident.

 

On Oct. 15, 1947, in South Bend, he married Marie A. Maternowski who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Leanne DeLater and Mary Czarnecki of South Bend. Three sons, William J., of Bremen, Ind., David J. and Mark S. of South Bend. Two granddaughters and seven grandsons.

Mr. Czarnecki was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, M.R. Falcons, Polish National Alliance No. 83 Fisherman's Club, and the American Legion Pulaski Post 357. He also served as a volunteer at the Battell Center.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Battell Center in Mishawaka.
