John A. Dandino

John A. Dandino, age 66, of Grant Rd., South Bend, expired at 10:45 a.m. Monday in his residence after an illness. Born in Elkhart, IN on Dec. 18, 1931 to Joseph Dandino and Rosina Ciarella, he was the sixth of seven children.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Stella and Antoniette.

 

In 1950 he moved to South Bend, and on May 30, 1950 in St. Adalbert Church he married Delphine Chrzan who survives. He is also survived by a son and three daughters, John J. (Jane) Dandino and Donna Dandino both of South Bend, Dianne Dandino of New Carlisle, and Debra Dandino of West Orange, New Jersey. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Mia Dandino and Matthew Dandino, a sister Lucille Kelly and three brothers, Nick, Pat and Michael Dandino all of Elkhart.

 

Mr. Dandino was employed at the Torrington Company as a precision bearing grinder for 30 years. He was President of U.A.W. Local 590 at the time of the Torrington closing. He then went on to work in the Job Training Program through Madison Center, helping to retrain and place unemployed fellow employees. He was also employed by St. Joseph County and the City of South Bend, as a heating and air conditioning inspector for five years. John was an avid gardener and always shared his harvest with family and friends. Being a Jack of All Trades, he was always ready and willing to give anyone a helping hand.

 

Visitation will be held today from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Butler officiating. Entombment will follow at the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
