Rev. James E. d’Autremont

November 7, 1909December 16, 1978

 

Rev. James E. d’Autremont, CSC, 69, of Niles IL, died shortly after noon Saturday at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago, after a lengthy illness.

 

He was born November 7, 1909, in Monticello IA.  He entered the seminary at University of Notre Dame in 1928 and made his first profession of vows of religion in 1929.  He was ordained to the priesthood in 1936 at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame.

 

Rev. d’Autremont was an administrator and teacher in several schools of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the United States and Chile for more than 40 years.  From 1949-1955 he was principal of Columbia Preparatory School, Portland OR.  In 1955 he established Notre Dame High School in Niles IL, where he remained until 1961.  He then returned to Chile as principal of St George’s College, Santiago.  Earlier this year he returned to teach at Notre Dame High School, Niles.

 

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Ellen d’Autremont, and a brother, Joseph, both of Lima OH.

 

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:30pm Wednesday at Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame.  Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Community Cemetery, Notre Dame.  Friends may call from 3 to 9pm Tuesday at Moreau Seminary where a wake will be at 4pm.
