Brother Francis Assisi Davis, CSC, 79, of Dujarie House, died at 1 p.m. Friday in Dujarie House. Brother Francis became a novice Feb. 1, 1929, and professed his vows Feb. 28, 1930 in the Congregation of Holy Cross. He taught high school from 1934 to 1968 at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, Central Catholic in Fort Wayne, Sacred Heart in Watertown, Wis., Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks, Calif., Cathedral in Indianapolis and St. Joseph’s in South Bend. He was a principal and superior in Long Beach, Calif. from 1947 to 1953. From 1968 to 1976 he also served on the staff at LeMans Academy

 

He received his bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1934 and his masters degree from Catholic University in 1942. He was born Sept. 29, 1908 in Cincinnati. He is survived by a half brother, William Gillock, and a cousin, Catherine Guolfoy, both of Indianapolis.

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Chapel of Holy Cross Brothers Center. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Brothers Chapel Center, where a wake will begin at 7:30 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
