SOUTH BEND - Vernel E. Deadmond, 80, of Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Carl King Tower of South Bend, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the center. He was employed by Bendix Corp. and was a self-employed machinist for many years.

He was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Odin, Ill., and lived in this area since 1934, coming from Illinois. On Aug. 30, 1941, in South Bend, he married Nila Eberly. She survives, with a son, Mark A. of South Bend; and a brother, Herbert ''Beryl'' of South Bend. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 294, and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. Friends may call one hour prior to services Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Temple
