Willie Evelyn Dean

April 17, 1912 - June 5, 2001

Mrs. Willie Evelyn "Precious" Dean, 89, dear aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and friend, who resided on West Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., entered into eternal rest at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an illness. Willie Evelyn, daughter of the late Willie B. and Evelena (Burris) Davis, was born in Union City, Tenn., on April 17, 1912. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two brothers, Clyde Davis and Roy Davis Sr. Moving from Mound City, Ill., she came to South Bend in 1942.

 

In November 1972, she and John Dean were united in wedlock. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Dean was a retired care-giver for the State of Indiana, and was a member of Sts. Memorial Church of God in Christ where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Family members who survive include a niece, Jackie (Dave) Woods of South Bend; a nephew, Roy Davis of Osceola, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Davis of South Bend; four great-nieces, Karen (Frank) Lemons of Decatur, Ga., Rochelle (Edward) Collier of Lawrenceville, Ga., Rhonda Davis and Gwendolyn William, both of South Bend; special nieces, Delores (Luther) Jackson of Savannah, Ga., and Evelyn Ellison of Elkhart, Ind.; along with several great-great-nieces; cousins, Nannie (Harold) Green and Bessie Bond, both of South Bend, Elder Charles Coatie of Muncie, Ind., Carrie Starr of Los Angeles and Barbara Wilmot of Milwaukee, Wis.; and a special friend, Myrtice Jones of South Bend; special children, Jill, Jodie, Sherry and Nicki; along with other relatives and friends.

 

Services for Mrs. Dean will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sts. Memorial Church, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
