J. Edward Deavel

            J. Edward Deavel, 86, of 2610 Woodmont, died at 3:15 a.m. today at home after a one-year illness.  He was employed for 46 years in the laboratory at the Uniroyal Corp.  Born on Aug. 30, 1893 in Woodland, Ind., he had lived in the south Bend-Mishawaka area most of his life.

            On March 12, 1913, in Goshen, he married Lydia Rowe, who survives.  Also Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Hupp of Bristol; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 w. Ironwood.  Rev. Lee Lebsack, pastor of Calvary Temple, will officiate.  Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

            He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans & Moose Lodge 1262 of Mishawaka and the Uniroyal Retirees Club.
