HENRY A. DeBAETS

December 9, 1916 – April 9, 2005

 

Henry A. DeBaets, 88, of Holy Cross Parkway, Notre Dame IN, passed away at 6:55am Saturday, April 9, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.

 

Henry was born on December 9, 1916, in South Bend IN, to Joseph and Irma (VanOverwalle) DeBaets.  He retired in 1983 from the Bendix Corporation, where he was employed for 45 years.  On November 20, in the former Sacred Heart Church on Thomas Street, he married Marie M. DeWyze, who survives.

 

Also surviving are his daughter, Cindy Getz of Littleton CO; three grandchildren, Courtney (Mike) Ranson, Kelly (Matthew) Kuchar and Michael (Amy) Neeb; five great grandchildren, Patrick and Caroline Neeb, and Jenna, Abby, and Claudia Kuchar; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that were very close to him.

 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Neeb; a son-in-law, John Getz; a sister, Florence Pinter; and by a brother, Joseph DeBaets.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Tuesday, April 12, in Corpus Christi Church.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 until 7pm today, April 11, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:30pm.

 

Henry was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, the Bendix Retirees Club, and was a charter member of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club.  He was an avid University of Notre Dame football fan and had attended every home football game since 1930.  He had also attended every football practice since 1952, until recently, when they became closed to the public.
