SOUTH BEND - August "Gus" DeBlase, 82, of South Bend, IN, died November 17, 2008. He was born December 12, 1925, to the late Mamie and August DeBlase Sr. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Anthony DeBlase; and his sister, Ann Holewinski. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Eugene Holewinski of SB; two nieces, Pamela (Hari) Iyer of Fort Collins, CO, and Elizabeth (Robert) Green of Spring, TX; one nephew, Chris (Susie) Holewinski of Indy; seven grand nieces and nephews, Elaine and Chloe Holewinski, Robert Ryan and Matthew Green, and Matthew, Geoffrey and Kristin Iyer; and other relatives, Jacquelyn (Ronald) Budzinski of Livonia, MI, and numerous cousins. Gus loved to watch and attend automobile races in Indy. He also loved Notre Dame football and playing cards. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, and was always willing to meet new people.
