Magala DeBlase

Mrs. Maggie DeBlase, 82, of 1214 S. Fellows Street, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday in her home following an extended illness. She was born on Feb. 20, 1879 in Palermo, Italy, and came to this South Bend 79 years ago from there.

 

On April 24, 1893, in Chicago, she married Steve DeBlase, who died in July 1953.Surviving are seven sons, Edward, Michael, Samuel, August, Frank, Joseph and Steve, all of South Bend; five daughters, Miss Santina DeBlase of Elkhorn, Wis., Miss Christine DeBlase, Mrs. Joseph Fotia and Mrs Frank Fotia, all of South Bend; four grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Lazzio of Lake Geneva, Wis; and a sister Mrs. Louis Rossetti of Chicago.

 

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Walsh-Bilancio Colonial Chapel. Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Matthew’s Co-cathedral with Rev. Msgr. Arnold Wibbert, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mrs. DeBlase was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
