Marie T. DeFreeuw, 91, of Peoria, Arizona, was born February 14, 1910, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away January 3, 2002, in Peoria, Arizona.

Marie spent most of her life in South Bend before moving to Arizona. She was a homemaker. She was also a member of St. Matthews parish in South Bend, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry and two grandchildren, Craig Goshert and Thomas DeFreeuw. Marie is survived by her daughters, Dixie Powers, Jean Hegedus, and Mary Goshert; a son, Jim DeFreeuw, her sister, Alice Grimm; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. in Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ. Mass will be Monday, January 7, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85017.

Editor: As Marie DeMaertelaere she married Henry DeFreeuw on 6-25-1929 in St. Joseph County IN. He died 5-31-1981.
