Matthew G. DeFreeuw

June 20, 1980 - Oct. 12, 2006

Matthew George DeFreeuw, 26, died on Thursday, October 12, 2006, in South Bend, Indiana.

Matthew was born on Friday, June 20, 1980. He was the only child of Blondyna DeFreeuw DeBoever and Patrick Wittling.

A cherished friend and son, Matthew's natural good looks and easy smile brought joy to those close to him. His death has left more questions than answers, but the faith of the family will, in time, provide comfort that he is resting in peace.

A kid at heart, Matthew's interests even as an adult included Frisbee golf, video game, and collecting baseball cards. His warm personality found a home in southern Florida for two years to escape the cold Midwest weather.

Matthew attended Christ the King and Clay High School, graduating in the Class of 1998. An employee of the grocery department at Meijer, he was recognized by co-workers and customers for his constant smile and genuine enthusiasm.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents; his grandparents, Terry and Virginia DeFreeuw and Frances Dunfee; his great-grandmother, Mary DeFreeuw; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Christopher Wittling and great-grandparents, John and Alice Walker and Frank DeFreeuw.

Friends are invited to share memories with the family on Monday, October 16, 2006, from 4 to 6 p.m. in McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 East Edison Road, South Bend. A memorial services will follow the visitation.
