Sister Mary Ethna, CSC, 96, of St. Mary’s Convent, died at 6:55. Today at the convent, after a short illness. She was born on Dec. 23, 1886 in New York City, as Catherine Degnan, and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Aug., 26, 1910. She was received as a novice on Dec. 10, 1910, and professed her vows on Dec. 10, 1912. She was assigned housekeeping duties throughout her community life and served at St. Mry’s Convent and St. Joseph Academy in South Bend. She also served in Chatsworth, Ill, Lancaster, Pa., and Baltimore, Md., returning to St. Mary’s in 1963.

 

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto. Internment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call until the hour of services at St. Mary’s Convent Parlors where the rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. Friday and a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
