Dorothy M. Deguch, 84, of Brandel Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mrs. Deguch was born on May 7, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late William and Cora (Smith) Corcoran. As a young adult, she moved to the South Bend area and had lived here most of her life.

 

On April 15, 1939, in South Bend, as Dorothy M. Corcoran, she married Frank Deguch, who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Lawrence. Mrs. Deguch is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Jacks of South Bend; three grandchildren, Craig Jacks of South Bend, and Lisa and Mike Gabele of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Jenny (Clarence) White of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews.

 

Mrs. Deguch was a housekeeper for the University of Notre Dame for 24 years before her retirement in May 1982. Her family was her life, and she was known for her generous and frequent smiles. She always expressed kindness to all those she met. She loved sewing, laughing, crocheting, and her family's dogs.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 4 p.m. parish Rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, South Bend, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. A procession from the Kaniewski Funeral Home to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph Visiting Nurse Association and/or to the Home Care Visiting Nurse Association, Post Office Box 5006, Mishawaka, IN 46546-5006.
