Alberto P. DeLeon Jr., 67, of South Grant Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in his residence. He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Brownsville, Texas, and he had lived in South Bend for 36 years. He retired in 1993 from Steel Warehouse. Mr. DeLeon was preceded in death by his father, Alberto P. DeLeon Sr., and by two children and three brothers.


He was married Aug. 20, 1955, in Brownsville, to Marie Salinas, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Zuelma Paz of Brownsville; four daughters, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez, Irene (Walter) McKenzie, Rosario (Arnulfo) Hernandez and Viola (Juan) Olivarez; four sons, Juan (Pamela) DeLeon, Jesus (Cynthia) DeLeon, Ramon (Linda) DeLeon and Dimas DeLeon, all of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Omero, Orlando, Rolando, Sarah DeLeon, Juan Olivarez Jr., Austin R. Hernandez, Jesus A. Gayton, Ramon Jr., Joaquin, Jesus Jr. and Jenalyn DeLeon; four great-grandchildren, Fabian and Ellza DeLeon, Dianna and Rolando Jr.; three sisters, Zulema Torres and Felipa Ruiz of Brownsville, and Maria D. Hernandez of South Bend; and by five brothers, Francisco, Oscar, Jose, Candeladrio DeLeon of Brownsville, and Javier DeLeon of South Bend.

 

Mr. DeLeon was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the DeLeon family.
