“Death Claims Mrs. DeLong; Resident, 73, Dies After Month of Illness.”

 

Mrs. Edith E. DeLong, 73, of E. Mckinley Hwy., died at 4 a.m. today in the Osteopathic Hospital, South Bend.  She had been ill for the last month.

Mrs. DeLong was born in Laketon, Ind., June 25, 1890, and had lived here 55 years coming from Laketon.  As Edith West, she was married to Orin A. DeLong in 1916 in South Bend.  He died in 1955. 

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul Guyse of Warren City, Fla., two sons, M. Sgt. Kenneth L. DeLong serving with the Air Force at Gwin, Mich., and Richard G. DeLong of Mishawaka; 18 grandchildren, two brothers, Samuel West, of Mishawaka, and Rex West, of South Bend and three sisters, Mrs. Marie Moffett, of Gary, Mrs. Charles Blasko of South Bend and Mrs. Arthur Rettschlag, of Mishawaka.

Friends may call in the Hollis Funeral Chapel, South Bend, from 7 p.m. Saturday until the funeral there at 1:30 p.m. Monday.  Rev. Kenneth Wilkins, pastor of the Northway Church of Christ, South Bend, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

DELONG - Pallbearers at services for Mrs. Edith E. DeLong, 73, of Rt. 19, McKinley Hwy., Mishawaka, who died Friday in Osteopathic Hospital, will be Walter Cornell, Kenneth Sones, Leon Farmer, Arthur Rettschlag, Charles Blasko, and Richard Wolfe.  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Hollis Funeral Home.
