Richard D. DeMetz

Richard D. DeMetz, 60, of West Marion Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Hospice House of South Bend, Ind., after an illness. Richard was born on June 14, 1943, in Mishawaka as the son of Charles and Mary M. (Van De Keere) De Metz. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.

 

On April 16, 1966, in South Bend, he married the former Caroline Monroe-Colt, who survives along with his mother, Mary De Metz of Mishawaka; two daughters, Deanne (Tim) Myers of New Carlisle, Ind., Melissa De Metz of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, Rick De Metz II of Indianapolis, Ind., and Randy Colt of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren, Patrick Van Bergen, Taylor Myers, Morgan Myers and Jacob Myers; a sister, Delores "Mitzi" (Patrick) O'Donnell of Littleton, Colo.; and a brother, Donald (Patricia) De Metz of Goshen, Ind.

 

Richard was a custodian for the South Bend Community School Corporation for 26 years before retiring in 2000. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who will be truly missed by all who knew him.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, with visitation one hour prior to the services in First Brethren Church South Bend on Ironwood, with Rev. Larry Baker officiating.
