Ethel R. DeMike

Mrs. Ethel R. DeMike, 90, residing at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, formerly of Day Road, Mishawaka, died at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday in the nursing center. Mrs. DeMike was born Oct. 24, 1906, in Bremen and had remained a lifelong area resident.

 

On Jan. 16, 1923, in St. Joseph, Mich., as Ethel R. Palmer, she married Virgil M. DeMike, who died May 18, 1991. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Phyllis Aldridge in 1951 and Ellen Stibick in 1996. Mrs. DeMike is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Lower and Rowena DeGraff, both of Mishawaka, and Patricia Koch of South Bend; three sons, Delore DeMike of Edwardsburg, Mich., Herbert DeMike of South Bend and Warren DeMike of Gilbert, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Brethren Church, 4909 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Rev. Larry R. Baker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., and one hour prior to services Friday in the church. Mrs. DeMike was a member of First Brethren Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the building fund of the church.
