Stanley Derda

Nov. 21, 1921 - March 21, 1999

Stanley Derda, 77, of Brick Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:11 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Derda retired in 1983 from Allied Signal after 30 years of service.

On Aug. 25, 1952, in South Bend, he married Imogene Wozniak, who preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1989. Mr. Derda was also preceded in death by a dear friend, Florence Brzezinski, who died on Feb. 25, 1999.

He is survived by a son, Steven (Teresa) Derda of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Julie (Nick) Ferraro of South Bend; six grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Heald of Clearwater, Fla., Eleanor MacGregor of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Rita Dorsey of South Bend; and by a brother, Ervin G. Derda of South Bend.

Mr. Derda was a retired lieutenant commander and Navy pilot in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Pulaski Post #357, and was president of the St. Joseph Valley Engineers Club. He was on the board of directors for 20 years and was Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #5570. He was also past president and on the board of directors of the Bendix Retirees Club.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a combined Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus and the parish.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church where he was a member. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
