Raymond Wayne Devers

Oct. 2, 1917 - March 21, 1999

Wayne Devers, 81, of South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, in the Hospice House, South Bend. Wayne was born on Oct. 2, 1917, in Clark County, Ohio, to the late Anna and Bruce Devers. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Devers.

 

Wayne married Isabel Plank on May 24, 1957, in Springfield, Ohio. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Philip M. Devers and his wife, Julie (Ladewski) Devers of Gobles, Mich. Wayne has a sister, Pauline Teach of Columbus, Ohio; and by a brother, Roger E. and his wife, Jean Devers of Springfield, Ohio.

 

Wayne spent his entire career as senior buyer and purchasing agent at the Oliver Corporation/ White Farm Equipment, retiring in 1980. Wayne was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, and taught adult Sunday school classes for many years. In his retirement years, Wayne received numerous awards in Senior Olympics Track and Field Events, competing in Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, and at the national level.

 

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the church, with Rev. Daniel Motto officiating. Committal services will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Ferncliff Cemetery Chapel, Springfield, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County and to the First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka.
