Michael Paul Devine

Michael Paul Devine, 53, of Homewood Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 3:10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, in his residence. Michael was born on Sept. 11, 1947, in Port Washing-ton, Wis., to Donald E. and Katherine A. (Tormey) Devine, who preceded him in death. Michael was the owner and CEO of Devine Healthcare Services, Inc., of Mishawaka.

 

He married Carrie E. Amidon on May 24, 1976, in Dubuque, Iowa. She survives of Mishawaka. Also surviving are six children: a daughter, Katherin Devine of South Bend, Ind., four sons, Richard and Wayne Helmus, both of Mishawaka, Ryan and (Kim) Devine of West Allis, Wis., Shawn Devine of Mishawaka, and a daughter, Lori and Eric Smith of Richmond, Ind.; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Devine of Morristown, N.J., and Mary Katherine and (Michael) Sonnicshen of Waterford, Wis.; one brother, Timothy and Linda Devine of West Allis.

 

Michael was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He served on the St. Joseph County Real Services Task Force for the Elderly, volunteer for The Center for the Homeless of South Bend, St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce Existing Business Committee and the Chamber Committee for Minority Business, a longtime Rotarian with the South Bend and Columbus, Ohio, Rotary Clubs, was a Paul Harris Fellow, was founder and past president of the Shamrock Club, Notre Dame, Ind., board of United Way of St. Joseph County, president of the St. Joseph County Hotel Motel Tax Board of Managers, and on the board of the Parkview St. Joseph County Juvenile Center. Mike was a sponsor, manager and coach of Mishawaka East End Little League Minors and Seniors, coach of Chippewa Bowl Youth Bowling, on the board of the Joint Council for Economic Education, the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Michiana, co-founder of the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce Convention & Tourism Division, and was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church.

 

Friends called from 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 East Edison Road, South Bend. A eulogy service was held at 4:30 p.m. and 8 pm., and a Rosary service at 8:30 p.m. Mass will be at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 22, in St. Monica's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Parnell, Wis. Memorial donations may be made to the Shamrock Club.
