Arthur M. Diamond Jr.

Arthur M. Diamond, 75, died at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday April 15, at his home.

He was born January 3, 1925 in South Bend, Ind. to Arthur M. and Mary (Keitzer) Diamond and lived here his entire life.

 

On June 17, 1950, in South Bend, Mr. Diamond was married to Dagny Lenon, who survives.

 

He is also survived by three sons and their families, Arthur M. Diamond, Jr., his wife, Jeanette, and their daughter, Jennifer, all of Omaha, Nebraska,; David A. Diamond, his wife, Carolyn, and their sons, Michael and Daniel, all of Columbus, Ohio; and Eric Lenon Diamond, his wife, Cynthia, and their daughters, Abigail and Amelia, of South Bend. Mr. Diamond is also survived by three sisters, Alice Eberhart, Ruth R. Diamond and Gladys (Carl) Wilson, all of South Bend.

 

Mr. Diamond attended James Monroe and Studebaker elementary schools and graduated in 1942 from Riley High School.

 

In 1947, Mr. Diamond graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame with a JD Degree. He served as Editor of the Notre Dame Lawyer and was awarded the Hoynes Medal and the Dome Award upon graduation in recognition of his achievements.

 

Mr. Diamond practiced law for 52 years in South Bend; 1947 to 1971 with Diamond and Miller; 1971 to 1983 with Diamond and Perry; and 1983 until his death with his son, Eric, as Diamond & Diamond. Practicing with his son and their good friend, Jeffrey M. Jankowski, was an especially enjoyable experience for him.

 

In 1975-76, Mr. Diamond served as President of the St. Joseph County Bar Association. He also held memberships in the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association and the American Judicature Society.

 

During 1970 and 1971, Mr. diamond served as president of Toastmasters International, a world wide speaking organization of 8,00 clubs. During this time, he traveled throughout North America promoting the mission of Toastmasters, to help people speak successfully. He joined club 462 in 1947 and remained a member.

 

Mr. Diamond has served as a republican precinct committeeman, a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America, a selective service appeals agent, a delegate to the state republican convention and a charter member of the Broadway Theater League.

Mr. Diamond traveled widely and was very proud that he had visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. He was an avid reader and a devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.

 

Friends may call at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday April 18th. Private family services will be held.
