Sister M. Catherine Dietzen CSC

Sister M. Catherine Dolores (Dietzen), CSC, 73, was born in Danville, Ill., to the late John William Dietzen and Margaret F. (Leven) Dietzen. She is survived by her sister, Sister M. John Margaret, CSC, and brothers, Rev. John J. Dietzen of Peoria, Ill., and Robert L. and Donald J. Dietzen, both of Danville, Ill.

 

After entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1950, Sister Catherine Dolores trained to be an elementary school teacher and taught in elementary schools for 28 years in Indiana, Creve Coeur, Illinois, and Michigan. Sister received her bachelor of science degree from St. Mary's College, Indiana, in 1964 and her master's in arts from the University of Detroit in 1970. Interspersed with her teaching, Sister was named principal at Holy Redeemer School, Flint, Mich., and Most Holy Redeemer School, Evergreen Park, Ill. She was elected Midwest Regional Superior in 1969. Sister added music to her teaching abilities and was at St. Jude's School, South Bend, Ind., and St. Thomas the Apostle School, Elkhart, Ind. She was a tutor as needed and, again, principal at St. Thomas the Apostle in Elkhart.

 

Sister Catherine Dolores came to Saint Mary's as religious superior for five years and took time off for a well-earned sabbatical in California and North Carolina. Sister returned to Saint Mary's where she volunteered at Saint Joseph's Health Center, South Bend, Ind., was a member of several committees, and served as a massage therapist for the Holy Cross sisters. Sister also was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Reception of the Body and Wake will be today, May 14, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Notre Dame, IN.

 

Funeral services will be Monday, May 15, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.
