Mildred A. Dobbs

Mildred A. Dobbs, 102, of Ribourde Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away quietly on Tuesday, April 23, in Regency Place Health and Rehabilitation. She was born Feb. 2, 1900, in Seymour, Iowa, to the late Charles A. Armantrout and Frances McKown. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Rost, Maude Bradley, Helen McNeer and Grace Lindsley.

 

On June 25, 1921, in Atmore, Ala., she married Arthur F. Dobbs, who died in 1974. She is survived by her loving daughter, Dorothy, and favorite son-in-law, Stanley Hojnacki, with whom she made her home. Also left to cherish her many years are her nephews and nieces, Clyde and June Rost of Pensicola, Fla., Charles and Debbie Rost of Fairhope, Ala., Lucille Feldt of Fruitland, Fla., Eleanor Smith of Tampa, Fla., Ruth Ann and Michael Ryan of Englewood, Colo., Genevieve and Alfred Milinkle of Gilbert, Ariz., and Rose Bud Gunther of Bagdad, Fla.

 

Mrs. Dobbs was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and prior belonged to River Park United Methodist until 1974. She was active in her church, was a devoted wife and mother, and enjoyed delicate crocheting and knitting, and later making afgans for friends and family. She also worked as an assistant manager in the Dixie Dress Shop in South Bend, Ind. She also managed the Cotton Shop in Davenport, Iowa, where she lived in her younger years. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, and since his passing looked forward to her Sunday drives with her daughter and husband. At 102 she attended the Lawrence Welk show in South Bend, and was acknowledged by the master of ceremonies for being there in the blizzard.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Pastor Kathy Miller Crook officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
