Robert D. Dobkins

Jan. 8, 1923 - Oct. 29, 1999

Robert D. Dobkins, Sr., 76, of South West Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 6:10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.

Bob was born on Jan. 8, 1923, in Bedford, Ind., to the late Dale and Elsie (Bolding) Dobkins. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Schaeffer in 1988.

On Sept. 30, 1942, Bob married the former Margaret Rausch, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Barbara (Ted) Broskey of Osceola, Ind.; two sons, Robert, Jr., of Michigan City, Ind., and Richard of Swansboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Tim Graham, Tom Dobkins, Lauri Hummel, Steven Dobkins, Mandy Dobkins, Ricky Dobkins, Pam Dobkins and Shelly Randolph; 10 great-grandchildren, Chris Hummel, Niki Hummel, Bradley Dobkins, Melissa Dobkins, Megan Dobkins, Zachery Graham, Emily Graham, Hannah Graham, Miranda Randolph and Quinn Randolph; two sisters, Jeanette Ashley of Michigan City and Martha McReynolds of Safford, Ariz.; and by two brothers, Raymond of LaPorte, Ind., and Joe of Bedford, Ind.

Bob retired in 1983 from Ace Refrigerated Trucking. He was a member of Teamsters Local 364. He had moved to Mishawaka in 1966 from Michigan City. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 31, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, in the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
