Services for Rev. John J. Doherty CSC, 67, who died Thursday afternoon in St. Joseph Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church with burial in Holy Cross Community Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today in Moreau Seminary, where a wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. today. He was born March 3, 1921 in Pendleton, Ore. and attended the University of Portland, and served in the military a short time before entering the Congregation of Holy Cross. He is survived by a sister, Patricia Mutch of Portland, and two brothers Emmett of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and Vincent of Phoenix, Ariz.

 

He made his first vows on Aug. 16, 1947 and was ordained to the priesthood May 30, 1953 in Portland. After his ordination he served in Columbia Preparatory School, Portland, 1953 to 1954; directors of vocations, 1954 to 1959; Holy Cross Mission Band, 1959 to 1972; St. Francis Xavier Parish, Burbank, Calif.; 1972 to 1975; Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; Mary Star of the Sea Parish, San Pedro, Calif., 1976 to 1978; Fatima Retreat Center, 1980 to 1982; and Holy Cross Parish, South Bend.
