Lyle Dohse

March 27, 1922 - July 24, 2001

Lyle "Bud" Dohse, 79, of Niles, Mich., died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in his home.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. (Mich. time) on Friday, July 27, in Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, Niles, where friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today (Mich. time). Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Edwardsburg (Mich.) American Legion Post #365.

Memorial donations may be made to Cass County Hospice.

Mr. Dohse was born on March 27, 1922, to William and Kate (Peters) Dohse in Clearwater, Neb. He moved to Cassopolis, Mich., in 1940 where he met the former Evelyn Perry. They were married on Oct. 31, 1942, in Defiance, Ohio. Bud served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II in the European Theater. During his military career he was a Golden Glove lightweight boxer. Upon his return from service in 1946 he was employed by the New York Central Railroad. He retired as yardmaster for Conrail in 1982. He was a member of Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan Pokagon Lodge 136 and Niles Commandery No. 12 Knights Templar of Niles.

Mr. Dohse is survived by his wife, Evelyn I. Dohse; two sons, John (Gail) Dohse of Edwardsburg and Lyle L. "Buzz" (Beki) Dohse of Cassopolis; two daughters, Alice M. Rienks of Niles and Delores Scott of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Nolma Knapp of Neligh, Neb., Opal (Harry) Proctor of Union, Mich., Pearl Watkins of Edwardsburg, Sybilla Messner of Cassopolis and Evelyn Sooy of Cassopolis.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilda (Charles) Black and infant, Fern Dohse.
