Alta Lorraine Dokey

SOUTH BEND - Alta Lorraine Dokey, age 84, of South Bend, passed away at Memorial Hospital Thursday, May 24, 2007 of natural causes. Alta was born February 27, 1923, in Illinois, to Arthur and Laura Bruens.

 

On January 13, 1940, the former Ms. Bruens was united in marriage to Mr. Max Dokey Sr. Max preceded her in death, passing away August 24, 1981. Surviving are her children, Max (Jane) Dokey of Mishawaka, Roger (Fran) Dokey of Osceola, Lorraine (Robert) Yarbrough of Stuart, Florida (formerly of South Bend) and Carol (Jim) Warren of South Bend, Indiana. Alta is also survived by her brothers, Raymond (Esther) Bruens of Granger, Gordon Bruens of Florida, and Merle Bruens of Cassopolis, Michigan; as well as her sisters, Lauretta (Barney) Smith of Florida, Rose Williams of Dowagiac, Michigan and Kay Bruens of Akron, Indiana. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Alta was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd and Arthur Bruens; and her sisters, Velma Bradley and Cleo Findley; along with a grandson, Christopher Yarbrough.

 

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

 

Alta was employed as a supervisor for the Morris Inn for 35 years before her retirement in 1990. She attended Bertrand Bible Church in Niles, Michigan. In her spare time, Alta enjoyed working in her yard, playing BINGO and cards with her family, and, in her younger years, spending time at the lake cottage. She enjoyed traveling, and watching the television show "Survivor." Alta was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family. In her memory, memorial contributions may be given to the Bertrand Bible Church.
