South Bend Tribune 4/27/1952

Brother Angelus Dolan CSC, 89, oldest living member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, died at 10 a.m. Saturday in the community infirmary on the University of Notre Dame campus, where he had lived since retirement from active community life because of ill health in 1945. Known to many midshipmen as Notre Dame as “Brother Dome” in the early 40’s, he served as guest master and guide in the golden-domed administration building, which he saw erected in 1882, the year he received his habit as a brother on Aug. 15. He entered the novitiate June 1, 1882 and made his final vows March 19, 1888.

Born John F. Dolan, March 4, 1863 in Weiglan, near Manchester, England, of Irish parents, he came with them to Boston, Mass. as a boy. He formerly was prefect of students in the old Corby Hall and taught the “minims” boys of elementary school grade in St. Edward’s Hall, discontinued in 1920. For 40 years he was a canvasser for the weekly Ave Maria published at Notre Dame and traveled throughout the United States, Canada Australia and England, before retiring to less active life as administration building guide. A niece, Sister M. Annette CSC, of St. Mary’s College survives.

The funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church on the campus, with burial in the community Cemetery.
