Mother Mary Verda CSC, 55, provincial of the midwestern province of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, died Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. the daughter of George Dersch. It was her 55th birthday. She was born in Baltimore Md. She received the habit in 1907 and was professed Aug. 15, 1913. After a year on mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, she taught at St. Cecelia’s Academy in Washington DC from 1910 to 1921. Then she returned to the motherhouse here and served as teacher of philosophy in St. Mary’s College until 1939, when she was elected provincial. It August of this year she was re-elected for another three-year term. She graduated from St. Catherine’s normal institute in Baltimore, and received her bachelors degree at St. Mary’s College in 1918. Post graduate was carried on at the University of Notre Dame, where her masters degree was conferred in 1921 and the doctor of philosophy degree in 1925. For years she was the sponsor of the senior class at St. Mary’s College.

 

Requiem mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s followed by burial in the community cemetery.
