James A. Dowdy

James A. Dowdy, 76, of S. Logan Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 9th, at St. Joseph community Hospital Mishawaka. Mr. Dowdy was born on March 21, 1920 in Florence, Ala. to Willie and Ida Dowdy. Mr. Dowdy retired from Wheelabrator Corporation in 1982, after 35 years as a crane operator.

In 1944, he married Christine Young in South Bend. Surviving with his wife, Christine is one son, James D. of Mishawaka, Ind.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Fulmer and Beulah Bruce, both of Ala., and one brother, Louie of Elkhart, Ind.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral home Friday, July 12 at 10 a.m. with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Mr. Dowdy was a member of the Current Road Church of Christ, Mishawaka.
