Sister M. Harriet Downs, CSC, 79, of Saint Mary's Convent, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in her residence.

Sister M. Harriet was born Dec. 17, 1914, in Grand Rapids, as Mary Eleanor Downs. She entered the Congregation of Sisters of the Holy Cross on July 26, 1945; was received as a novice, Feb. 2, 1946; and professed her final vows Feb. 2, 1948. She was assigned to clerical duties and served in the business office of St. Joseph's Medical Center until 1951. Later, she was assigned to Saint Mary's College and Midwestern Provincial House, and assigned to the convent in 1983. She is survived by a brother, Edward Downs of Billings, Mont.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Burial will be in

Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today in the church, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
