Br. Francisco (William) Drury, CSC, 73, died after a long illness on Thursday, June 15, in Dujarie House, the Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame. He was born on July 15, 1926, to the late Leo and Margaret (Larrick) Drury in Washington, Ind.

 

Br. Francisco was educated in schools in Washington, then entered the novitiate of the Brothers of Holy Cross at Rolling Prairie, Ind., in August 1944. He pronounced his first vows on Aug. 16, 1945, and made his perpetual profession of vows on Aug. 16, 1949.

 

A gifted artist and teacher of art, Br. Francisco served Holy Cross in the following assignments: St. Thomas School, Brooklyn, N.Y., Don Bosco Home, Spokane, Wash., Notre Dame High School, Biloxi, Miss., St. Francis Assisi School, Brooklyn, St. Edward High School, Lakewood, Ohio, St. Patrick's High School, Monrovia, Liberia, Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron, Ohio, Holy Cross High School, River Grove, Ill., Catholic Central High School, Monroe, Mich., Gilmour Academy, Gates Mills, Ohio, the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind., the University of Portland, Portland, Ore., and the Senior Friendship Centers, Inc., Sarasota and Venice, Fla.

 

Br. Francisco earned a degree in library science in 1970, and much of his later career was devoted to library work. His warm friendliness and availability, along with his patient dedication to detail and order, contributed to his capability in teaching, administration and library ministry. From 1989, his welcoming personality made him particularly effective serving in several roles at the Senior Friendship Centers in Florida.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 18, in St. Joseph Chapel at the Brothers' Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, 54515 State Road 933 North. A Mass of Resurrection will follow, with burial immediately afterward in St. Joseph's Cemetery on the Village grounds. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
