Services for Rev. William T. Duffy, CSC, 64, of Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, who died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Medical Center after a brief illness, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame. Rev. James Buckley, CSC, will officiate and Rev. Michael O’Brien, CSC, will deliver the homily. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Moreau Seminary Chapel, Notre Dame, where a wake service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Rev. Gregory Lombardo, CSC, will give the eulogy. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Notre Dame.

 

He was born on Feb. 5, 1919, in Central Falls, RI, and attended Holy Trinity parochial school there. He entered the Holy Cross Seminary, Notre Dame, in 1932. On Aug. 16, 1938, he made his first profession of vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross, graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1941, and after theological studies at Holy Cross College, Washington DC, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 10, 1945, in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame.

 

He taught mathematics at Columbia Preparatory School in Portland, Ore., from 1945 to 1949, at the University of Notre Dame from 1950 to 1983. He also served as religious superior of the Holy Cross Community from 1962 to 1968  at Portland, Ore. Since November of this year he had been residing at Holy Cross House because of ill health. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Casey of Swamspscott, Mass., and a brother Vincent Duffy of Swansea, Mass. The Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
